  • The Bernese Mountain Dog has a signature tri-colored coat. The traditional Bernese Mountain Dog coat features a solid jet black base color with white and rust or tan markings. The tan and rust markings are usually present above the eyes, on the cheeks, on each side of the chest, on the legs, and under the tail. The white markings are found on the muzzle, between the eyes, on the chest, neck, and paws.

  • Bernese Mountain Dogs have a medium coat length and are high shedders. They require weekly grooming.

  • Bernese Mountain Dogs are very playful and friendly. They’re generally deferential (not often “territorial” or “vigilant”) and are highly adaptable.

  • Bernese Mountain Dogs are eager to please and very receptive to training. They tend to be somewhat vocal (barking to alert), and are happy to lounge around the house.
